Avalara launched AVI and a network of compliant AI agents
Avalara, Intelligent Network Controller (INC). announced its launch of the Autonomous Vehicle Infrastructure (AVI) and a network of intelligent Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents aimed at enhancing tax and compliance automation. This development introduces the first AI-powered workforce dedicated to improving the efficiency of essential tax processes while ensuring human oversight and control.
According to Scott McFarlane, CEO and Co-Founder of Avalara, the company’s latest advancements leverage AI to enhance operational autonomy without sacrificing security or control. The platform integrates AI agents into Avalara's existing security framework, offering an auditable solution designed for compliance processes.
The Agentic Tax and Compliance™ platform emphasizes human review at every level. Operations from tax filings to exemption certificate validation are managed by AI agents that require user approval before executing actions, maintaining organizational control throughout the compliance process.
Avalara’s new AI capabilities include functions such as global tax determination, tax return filing, and exemption certificate validation. The AVI acts as the central orchestrator for these AI agents, ensuring that each task, from utilizing transaction data to filing returns, is completed with meticulous oversight.
Developers and partners can integrate these services via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and collaborate with third-party AI systems. The rollout for the new capabilities will initiate globally in Q4 2025, with early access already provided to select enterprise partners.
