Astera Labs acquires aiXscale Photonics
Astera Labs, Inc. announced its acquisition of aiXscale Photonics GmbH, aiming to enhance its photonic chiplet and connectivity solutions for Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure. This transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition is set to enable the development of scale-up solutions by integrating aiXscale's fiber-chip coupling technologies with Astera's existing connectivity and signal processing offerings. As AI infrastructure evolves, high-performance connectivity is critical to meet the demands for speed, power, and volume in rack-scale systems.
Sanjay Gajendra, COO and president of Astera Labs, remarked on the need for optical solutions that can manage the complexity of future networks, adding that the acquisition would bring essential talent and technology to support rack-scale AI deployments. Jeremy Witzens, CEO of aiXscale Photonics, noted that their optical I/O precision glass coupler technology addresses the challenges of light coupling in high-density applications. Florian Merget, co-founder of aiXscale, emphasized the opportunity to deploy their technology within Astera's broader photonic solution framework.
