Afribone selects IP Infusion's OcNOS for network upgrade in Mali
Afribone, based in Mali, has opted for IP Infusion's OcNOS to upgrade its network infrastructure, replacing Cisco and MikroTik solutions. This change comes as Afribone works to expand its multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network to improve services for its customer base, which includes fixed wireless and fiber enterprise clients, as well as to ensure high availability and reliable connectivity to its data center.
Founded in 1999, Afribone serves local businesses, public enterprises, NGOs, and United Nations organizations. In 2020, Afribone's local loop radio distribution network was recognized as the leading internet service provider in Mali.
The upgrade aimed to replace outdated Cisco Catalysts with competitive, carrier-grade technologies. OcNOS from IP Infusion offers a software foundation that integrates various networking applications, allowing flexibility in hardware selection from companies like UfiSpace and Edgecore. The deployment continues to replace and work alongside MikroTik equipment.
“In our initial evaluation, the open networking option was much more flexible and cost-effective than other solutions. We have been using disaggregated networking with IP Infusion for over six years,” said Eric Stevance, CEO of Afribone. “OcNOS continues to outperform rivals in terms of features versus price, significantly altering our cost dynamics.”
IP Infusion's CEO, Atsushi Ogata, emphasized the significance of international emerging markets like West Africa, stating, “The hallmark needs of these markets, such as rapidly changing needs and budget considerations, are most effectively met with intelligent networking software.”
