Varonis Systems acquires SlashNext for email security enhancement

Varonis Systems, Inc. has acquired SlashNext, an AI-native email security provider known for its high detection rates of phishing and social engineering attacks. This acquisition aims to extend Varonis's capabilities in data breach prevention by enhancing security measures in email communication.

Founded by Atif Mushtaq, a pivotal figure in the development of FireEye’s malware sandbox technology, SlashNext utilizes predictive Artificial Intelligence (AI) to counteract evasive tactics employed by cybercriminals, safeguarding users against multi-channel phishing threats. Varonis seeks to offer Chief Information Security (infosec) Officers (CISOs) an integrated threat detection and response solution that addresses vulnerabilities at the email level, where many breaches originate.

Yaki Faitelson, Varonis’s CEO, stated, “The acquisition of SlashNext is a natural evolution of our platform and significantly expands our total addressable market. By connecting the dots between email, identity, and data, we will dramatically increase the value of our MDDR service.” Mushtaq remarked on the partnership, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive protection against advanced threats across multiple communication channels.

The email security market is anticipated to grow from $5.2 billion in 2025 to $10.7 billion by 2032, largely driven by AI-enhanced phishing attacks. SlashNext employs AI models leveraging techniques like computer vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to effectively shield users from varied threats.

In a recent evaluation conducted by the Tolly Group, SlashNext achieved an impressive detection accuracy of 99%, securing the top spot in identifying Business Email Compromise (BEC) and QR code attacks. This reinforces Varonis's commitment to enhancing its email security offerings.

Following the acquisition, Varonis updated its financial guidance, incorporating costs associated with the deal while reiterating previous cash flow targets. For Q3 2025, Varonis expects revenues between $163 million and $168 million, representing 10% to 13% growth year-over-year.

The company forecasts annual recurring revenue in the range of $748 million to $754 million, with a projected free cash flow of $120 million to $125 million for 2025.
