Nord Security Impact Report Says 2025 Operations Used 100% Renewable Electricity
Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, NordLayer, NordPass, NordLocker, Coveron, NordStellar, and Saily, released its annual Impact Report covering 2025. The report details changes in how the company powered operations and how it supported nonprofit organizations and individuals through its product donation program.
On the operations side, Nord Security said it reached full renewable electricity across its colocation servers and offices worldwide during 2025. It also reported measures tied to greenhouse-gas accounting, including a breakdown of where emissions occurred and how energy-related emissions were handled. In its community support section, the company reported increases in donated product accounts and described a training program for nonprofits.
For electricity use, the report said Nord Security reached 100% renewable electricity across all colocation servers and offices worldwide. The company described a transition from 50% renewable energy in 2024, and said the change resulted in a 66% reduction in emissions related to purchased electricity, heating, and cooling compared to the prior year. It added that it used low-power servers designed for energy-efficient operations across 42 cities globally and purchased renewable energy attribute certificates (EACs), including GECs, I-RECs, RECs, and TRECs, equivalent to the electricity consumed by colocation servers and office facilities worldwide.
Nord Security reported total 2025 greenhouse gas emissions of 30,030 tCO2e, with 99.3% occurring in the supply chain, and said it continued to calculate emissions using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The report also said around 69% of office staff work in BREEAM-certified buildings and listed energy-saving measures across all offices, including blind automation for temperature control, time and motion-based lighting, recycling programs, and time-adjusted ventilation modes. For nonprofits, Nord Security said it doubled NordVPN donations in 2025 compared with 2024 to 3,572 accounts donated, reaching 5,521 total product accounts distributed across its product suite to nonprofits and individuals in need, including 752 NordPass accounts, 491 NordLocker accounts, and 655 Saily eSIM data plans. It said the donations supported 360+ nonprofit organizations across 68 countries, with 220 recipients tied to new NGO partnerships and 147 tied to continued partnerships. The report also said the company introduced Saily eSIMs to its support package for the first time and finalized a hands-on training program for nonprofit organizations called “Cybersecurity for Changemakers,” which focused on practical, accessible cybersecurity guidance. “In 2025, our focus wasn't solely on driving innovation, building new features, and scaling our products; we also made significant progress in environmental sustainability and community support. All of the implemented changes stemmed from our core mission – building secure technology and creating conditions for a safer, more open internet,” says Nord Security co-founder Eimantas Sabaliauskas.
