Nokia and CNT launch Ecuador's first commercial 5G network

Nokia and Corporación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones E.P. (CNT E.P.) launched Ecuador’s first commercial 5G network, enhancing connectivity and digital services across the country. The network reaches speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, which is ten times faster than 4G, and reduces latency, crucial for applications in health, education, and smart city development.

The initiative includes the deployment of 188 5G sites in cities like Guayaquil and supports the Ecuadorian government's digital transformation strategy. This plan aims to expand high-speed internet access nationwide by mid-2026.

Ronald Spina, General Manager of CNT E.P., stated, “This is a landmark moment in Ecuador’s technology history. Our new 5G mobile network will offer faster, more stable and secure connectivity across the country without raising our commercial prices.”

Nokia will bring its AirScale Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, designed for energy efficiency and high performance. The deployment will also integrate Nokia’s intelligent Network Management System (NMS), improving network visibility and management.

Bruno Leite, Head of Mobile Networks for Latin America at Nokia, noted, “We are confident this latest collaboration on the 5G launch will significantly modernize CNT’s broadband and support its commitment to build a more innovative, competitive and connected nation.” The network is expected to elevate the digital capabilities of diverse sectors within the region.
