Ivanti Research Predicts Ransomware as Top Cyber Threat for 2025

Ivanti's latest report identifies ransomware as the primary cyber threat anticipated for 2025. The report indicates that 38% of security professionals believe ransomware will be more dangerous due to the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Despite the looming threat, only 29% of cybersecurity experts feel they are well-prepared for a potential ransomware attack, marking a substantial preparedness gap. The findings suggest that organizations must adopt more comprehensive security measures and an exposure management approach, striking a balance between security and business objectives.

The research also highlighted that while 49% of security professionals perceive exposure management positively, a mere 22% plan to increase investments in this area by 2025. Daniel Spicer, Chief Security Officer at Ivanti, emphasized the importance of collaboration between security teams and business leaders in mitigating risks effectively.

Key insights from the report include:

  • 83% of security teams claim to have a documented framework for identifying risk tolerance, yet over half do not adhere closely to it.
  • One-third of professionals view technical debt as a serious threat impacting security and growth, with 37% unable to maintain basic security practices due to it.
  • Data silos are prevalent, causing significant blind spots in security data, with 62% noting slowed response times and 53% reporting weakened security.

The report advocates for organizations to fully embrace exposure management, dismantle silos, and address technical debt to improve their security posture and enhance business growth.
