Iridium Communications Inc. integrates Hi MATE with satellite connectivity

Iridium Communications Inc. was selected by HD Hyundai Construction Equipment to integrate the manufacturer's Hi MATE remote fleet management system with Iridium's global satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services, a change the companies said expanded Hi MATE's reach and support for Hyundai's global customer base.

The integration enabled HD Hyundai to extend the geographical reach of its Hi MATE service into new markets and regions and to enhance connectivity and support for its global customer base. The announcement also presented Iridium's satellite connectivity as an alternative to on-site fixed infrastructure and noted continued adoption of Iridium connectivity by major heavy equipment manufacturers.

The Hi MATE remote management system provides location tracking, geofencing, and diagnostic insights for excavators and wheel loaders, including performance metrics such as engine hours and fuel consumption. Iridium ConnectedSM Hi MATE extended those functions to remote sites, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and remote troubleshooting intended to reduce downtime, optimize scheduling, and lower operating costs.

The integration referenced Iridium Short Burst Data® (SBD®) as part of the connectivity capability and described the solution as extending data delivery to remote deployments. Iridium provided its satellite IoT services to enable delivery of the machine data described in the announcement.

“As a leading equipment manufacturer, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has set the bar high for reliability by adding Iridium's low-latency, reliable connectivity to Hi MATE, enabling their customers to get critical data regardless of deployment conditions,” said Tim Last, Executive Vice President, Iridium. “With Iridium Short Burst Data® (SBD®), Hyundai's customers gain unmatched global coverage and mission-critical reliability, key advantages for equipment operating in even the most remote locations.”

The companies described plans to extend the Hi MATE service into additional markets and regions.
