General Dynamics Information Technology wins $285M Virginia cyber contract
General Dynamics Information Technology was awarded a $285 million contract by the Commonwealth of Virginia to strengthen the state's cybersecurity infrastructure and to provide services to agencies statewide.
The agreement applied to the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA), which provided IT services for 67 state agencies serving more than 8.8 million residents. The contract expanded GDIT's services for state and local governments nationwide and referenced the company's prior work in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Texas.
GDIT planned to use its Eclipse Defensive Cyber and Everest Zero Trust Digital Accelerators to deliver vulnerability management, zero trust services and a 24/7 Security Operations (SecOps) center. The company planned to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate security monitoring, integrate cybersecurity tools and provide threat detection capabilities. GDIT also planned to support VITA's Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) initiatives to address future quantum computing threats and to strengthen encryption protocols.
Awarded in October, the contract included a one-year transition period, a five-year base period and three one-year option periods. Under the terms, GDIT was to deliver the described cybersecurity services and support to VITA under the stated periods and funding level.
“From public safety to education, Virginia's ability to deliver essential services to millions of residents depends on a secure digital infrastructure,” said Scott Mack, GDIT vice president and general manager for state and local government. “We look forward to delivering advanced technology solutions to build resilience into agencies' systems, protect against evolving cyberthreats and enhance the state's overall cybersecurity posture.”
