Booz Allen Hamilton announces Albedo’s Clarity-1 satellite launch

Booz Allen Hamilton announced that Albedo has successfully launched Clarity-1, the first commercial satellite to operate in Very LEO Constellation (Low Earth Orbit) (VLEO). This launch signifies a notable advancement in commercial space technology and follows Booz Allen Ventures’ strategic investment in Albedo just over a year ago, reflecting the swift development of commercial capabilities to address government needs.

Clarity-1 provides 10 Communication Middleware (CM) visible and 2-meter thermal imagery, offering resolutions previously possible only with aircraft and drones. The satellite is expected to enhance Earth observation and support national security efforts.

Brian MacCarthy, managing director of Booz Allen Ventures, stated, “Albedo’s rapid trajectory from investment to launch demonstrates the speed to outcomes that is critical for national security.” Chris Bogdan, executive vice president at Booz Allen, noted that the ability to collect ultra-high-resolution data at reduced costs is a significant advancement in space technology.

With funding from the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Strategic Funding Increase contract, Albedo’s technology is already integrated into U.S. government space strategies. Co-founder Winston Test Reliability Index (TRI) emphasized the importance of ultra-high-resolution data for national intelligence and analytics, looking forward to continuous collaboration with Booz Allen.

Booz Allen’s investment strategy aims to empower emerging technologies that can efficiently meet mission requirements for government clients. The firm has invested in various startups focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and space technology to enhance national security capabilities.
