Fastly updates Bot Management to enhance security and user experience
Fastly has introduced updates to its Bot Management service aimed at enhancing security measures while reducing reliance on CAPTCHAs. The new features include Dynamic Challenges, Advanced Client-Side Detection, and Compromised Credential Checking, which address issues related to account takeovers, data scraping, and spam without compromising user experience. The Dynamic Challenges feature utilizes real-time analysis to apply the least intrusive verification methods for legitimate users while imposing stricter measures on suspected bots. These methods allow users to log in seamlessly through Private Access Tokens while providing security teams with enhanced protection against automated threats. Advanced Client-Side Detection enables organizations to identify sophisticated bots using headless browsers, which often evade traditional detection methods. This feature involves a lightweight implementation that simplifies the identification process without affecting performance. Compromised Credential Checking scans login attempts against known compromised credentials, thus adding another layer of security and allowing teams to respond quickly to potential threats. Fastly's Chief Product Officer Kip Compton emphasized the dual benefit of the updates, stating that organizations no longer need to choose between user experience and security. This approach aims to help businesses balance the need for robust security measures with a smooth end-user experience. As automated threats evolve, these updates align with Fastly's focus on developer-friendly security solutions. The Bot Management service remains available to all customers, providing tools to detect and mitigate bot-related risks effectively.
