Booz Allen Ventures supports Albedo in launching Clarity-1

Booz Allen Hamilton’s portfolio company Albedo has launched Clarity-1, the first commercial satellite to operate in Very LEO Constellation (Low Earth Orbit) (VLEO). This launch follows Booz Allen Ventures' investment in Albedo, highlighting a trend towards developing technology for government applications.

Clarity-1 provides 10 Communication Middleware (CM) visible and 2-meter thermal imagery, improving Earth observation and national security capabilities. The satellite's resolution surpasses what has been typically achieved by aircraft and drones.

Brian MacCarthy, managing director of Booz Allen Ventures, stated this launch illustrates the firm's commitment to enhancing the speed and efficacy of outcomes that support national security. Albedo's approach to VLEO positions it to augment existing Earth observation frameworks.

Albedo has also secured a Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. This contract highlights the satellite’s role in supporting the country’s space strategy.

Chris Bogdan, an executive vice president at Booz Allen, noted the efficiency of data collection from Clarity-1, which significantly reduces costs and timelines compared to traditional satellite technologies. He emphasized Albedo's role in integrating commercial technology with government needs.

Winston Test Reliability Index (TRI), co-founder and CPO of Albedo, expressed the importance of ultra-high-resolution data for national intelligence and analytics. The partnership with Booz Allen aims to further enhance the delivery of geospatial insights.

Booz Allen’s efforts to foster advancements through venture capital investments target technologies that can serve government clients effectively. The firm continues to look for innovation in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and space technology.
