Afribone adopts IP Infusion's OcNOS for network upgrade

Afribone, a telecommunications provider based in Mali, has opted for IP Infusion's OcNOS open networking software to replace existing Cisco and MikroTik equipment. This transition supports Afribone's expansion of its multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network, allowing the company to enhance service delivery to its customers, which include enterprises, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international entities. The deployment of OcNOS addresses the need for reliable connectivity as Afribone aims to upgrade its infrastructure to support fixed wireless and fiber services. The firm plans to ensure high availability and carrier-class connectivity within its data centers. The initial phase of this deployment involves replacing aging Cisco Catalyst switches with competitive carrier-grade technologies. OcNOS serves as the foundational software, enabling Afribone to utilize open hardware from vendors like UfiSpace and Edgecore, facilitating interoperability with MikroTik equipment. Eric Stevance, CEO of Afribone, stated that the open networking approach has proven to be a flexible and cost-effective solution, mentioning that their collaboration with IP Infusion over the past six years has positively impacted operational costs. Atsushi Ogata, CEO of IP Infusion, highlighted the importance of competitive pricing and adaptable solutions for international markets like West Africa, indicating a demand for intelligent networking software tailored to rapidly evolving needs. This move reflects a broader trend within the industry towards open networking solutions, which allow businesses to optimize their IT strategies and operational efficiency.
