Bristol Bay Cellular and RINA to Launch Alaska’s Cloud-Native Core Network Powered by Mavenir

Mavenir announced an expansion of its cloud-native Packet and Voice Core solutions to Alaska through agreements with Bristol Bay Cellular and the Rural Independent Network Alliance (RINA). This deployment will provide advanced 4G services and a path to 5G for rural communities, enhancing mobile connectivity in some of the most remote areas of the United States.

A new carrier-grade cloud-native core platform will be established in Anchorage, supporting localized mobile traffic for RINA members, including Bristol Bay Cellular. The deployment will also serve as a redundant core for other RINA networks, complementing existing infrastructure in Utah. Mavenir will upgrade the Utah-based core, ensuring seamless operation and management between both locations.

Built on Mavenir's cloud-native architecture, the infrastructure supports 4G services and future 5G capabilities, utilizing industry-leading solutions such as Integrated Maritime Surveillance (IMS), Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE), and VoWiFi. This deployment emphasizes the collaboration between Mavenir and RINA in supporting rural operators. Mavenir's President Ashok Khuntia noted the significance of this partnership in future-proofing network infrastructure.

RINA's Director of Operations, Allen Bennion, pointed out the scalable core infrastructure's ability to provide flexibility for various operators, while Bristol Bay Cellular's CEO, Earl Hubb, highlighted improved connectivity in Alaska as a result of this deployment. The new network infrastructure will replace legacy systems and enhance the delivery of mobile voice and data services throughout the region.
