Booz Allen Hamilton and Shield AI collaborate on autonomous solutions for U.S. military

Booz Allen Hamilton and Shield Artificial Intelligence (AI) are collaborating to develop AI-enabled autonomous solutions tailored for the U.S. government, primarily focusing on the Department of Defense. This partnership is intended to integrate Booz Allen’s mission engineering capabilities with Shield AI’s Hivemind Enterprise platform, promoting the swift deployment of advanced AI control systems and autonomous operations in military scenarios. The collaboration aims to improve U.S. military effectiveness against potential adversaries, providing essential decision-making advantages in complex environments. Shield AI’s Hivemind software is capable of piloting a range of autonomous vehicles, including drones and fighter jets, even under adverse conditions such as GPS jamming. The partnership may also extend to other critical national security missions. Steve Escaravage, president of Booz Allen’s Defense Technology Group, highlighted the urgency of evolving military responses to rapidly changing threats. He noted that this collaboration will enhance autonomy capabilities that are essential for operational success. Brandon Tseng, president and co-founder of Shield AI, emphasized the importance of effective technology deployment in real-life scenarios, connecting the practical needs of warfighters with technological advancements. In addition to the partnership, Booz Allen has made a substantial corporate venture capital investment in Shield AI, aimed at scaling the Hivemind Enterprise technology and enhancing the production of autonomous systems across the industrial base. The collaboration aligns with Booz Allen’s strategic focus on leveraging AI and cyber technologies to support federal operations and maintain national security. Shield AI, operational since 2015, is dedicated to developing autonomous solutions for defense applications, contributing to the operational readiness of U.S. military operations and those of allied nations.
