Semtech to Address Smart Metering Standards at Workshop
Standards harmonization is essential for accelerating global adoption of IoT-enabled grid monitoring and control systems.
Semtech Corporation will have Rémi Demerlé, marketing director of its LoRa ecosystem, deliver a keynote address at the 9th IEC-IEEE-BIS Smart Energy Standardization Coordination Workshop. This event will take place during India Smart Utility Week 2025, scheduled for March 18, 2025, in New Delhi, India.
Demerlé is set to present on how LoRaWAN technology supports smart metering deployments globally, emphasizing low power and long-range connectivity that enhances utility efficiency and sustainability.
“As utilities worldwide face mounting pressure to modernize aging infrastructure while integrating distributed energy resources, LoRaWAN provides the critical communication backbone that enables real-time monitoring and control across vast networks,” Demerlé stated. He noted that the Indirect Evaporative Cooling (IEC) standard profile for smart metering has established a foundation for the rapid deployment of interoperable networks.
The IEC-IEEE-BIS workshop offers a crucial platform for harmonizing international standards important for smart energy systems, relevant particularly in India, where the government’s National Smart Grid Mission oversees 250 million smart electricity meters. Past workshops have influenced the development of national standards and facilitated the adoption of IEC, IEEE, and ISO standards in India’s energy sector.
Semtech’s involvement reflects its commitment to advancing Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solutions tailored for utility applications, leveraging the LoRaWAN protocol’s capabilities for secure and reliable sensor connectivity.
