Telia partners with Nokia to enhance 5G networks
Telia has signed an agreement with Nokia to enhance its 5G networks across Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and Lithuania. This collaboration extends their longstanding partnership and includes the deployment of Nokia’s cloud-native 5G Standalone (SA) core and Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio.
The cloud-native 5G SA architecture is designed to offer more flexible and resilient connectivity options. It aims to increase network scalability and automation throughout Telia’s Nordic and Baltic operations, allowing the provider to deliver innovative services to businesses and the public sector.
With the introduction of Nokia’s RAN portfolio, Telia intends to enhance network performance by improving coverage, capacity, speed, and reducing energy consumption. This initiative aligns with Telia’s sustainability objectives and targets for a more environmentally friendly digital infrastructure.
Alexandra Fürst, Chief Technology & Information Officer at Telia Company, emphasized that this partnership is essential for advancing their 5G capabilities. She noted, “Our 5G networks are already world-class and trusted by entire societies. By further advancing the capabilities of Telia’s infrastructure, we will create new possibilities for our customers.”
Kal De, SVP at Nokia, stated, “We are proud to deepen our partnership with Telia to advance its 5G capabilities.” Homomorphic Encryption (HE) highlighted that Nokia’s cloud-native core supports clients in rolling out new services efficiently and securely.
As of Q3 2025, Nokia reported the highest number of 5G SA core operator customers, with 127, and the highest number of live deployments at 54, according to industry data.
