Nokia partners with Surge to bring affordable high-speed internet services to Indonesia
Nokia announced a multi-year agreement with Surge to deploy a 5G Fixed Wireless Access (Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA)) network across Indonesia. This initiative aims to improve internet connectivity in regions with limited fiber access, supporting the Indonesian government’s digital inclusion and affordable broadband goals. Deployment is scheduled to commence in December 2025.
Surge intends to leverage Nokia’s technology to create a large-scale 5G Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA) network utilizing the n50 spectrum band. The solution will utilize existing Nokia infrastructure, including FTTx, IP, and Optics for backhaul and transport, aimed at delivering high-speed, low-latency broadband access in underserved areas.
Nokia will supply equipment from its AirScale Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio, incorporating advanced AirScale Baseband and zero-footprint site solutions. The deployment also includes the MantaRay Network Management System (NMS), which enhances network efficiency and performance through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Surge’s leadership highlighted the partnership as a means to improve connectivity and user experience for customers.
