Nokia and blackned develop deployable tactical networks for defense

Nokia and blackned GmbH have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop advanced deployable tactical networks for the defense sector. This partnership combines Nokia's 5G technology with blackned's expertise in defense digitalization, aiming to enhance secure communication for military operations.

Under the agreement, the two companies will integrate their product portfolios to create a unique deployable communication system tailored to Germany’s defense needs, while also adaptable for other countries. This collaboration will utilize Nokia’s 5G tactical communications technology alongside blackned’s software solutions to form an integrated platform for the Rheinmetall Battlesuite.

These deployable tactical networks are designed for rapid deployment and extended operational reach, providing reliable connectivity and high data rates essential for modern military units. They aim to support the Software Defined Defense framework by enhancing situational awareness and improving decision-making speed and asset coordination.

“blackned is dedicated to advancing innovation in defense digitalization, and our agreement with Nokia represents an important milestone in that mission. Together, we will provide powerful, flexible and future-ready tactical network solutions built for the realities of modern defense,” said Timo Zaiser, CTO at blackned GmbH.

“In a rapidly evolving tactical environment, speed, mobility and adaptability are paramount. Through the partnership with blackned, our 5G technology will empower defense forces to deploy robust communication capabilities swiftly and share intelligence more effectively, providing our customers with a decisive advantage on the battlefield,” stated Giuseppe Targia, Head of Space and Defense at Nokia.
