Huawei announces Top Ten Inventions at sixth IP Forum

On November 11, 2025, Huawei hosted its sixth Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Forum in Beijing, announcing the winners of its biannual “Top Ten Inventions” award. The forum brought together experts from various fields to discuss the role of openness and IP protection in fostering innovation and social progress.

Liuping Song, Huawei's Chief Legal Officer, stated, “Open innovation drives society and technology forward, and it's in our DNA. We are committed to an open approach to innovation.” Huawei reported patent licensing revenue of approximately US$630 million in 2024, highlighting its investment in protecting intellectual property.

Marco Alemán, Assistant Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, noted that Huawei is a major user of WIPO's Global IP Services and has consistently ranked as the top filer of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, with 6,600 published in 2024. This trend underscores Huawei's engagement in global innovation efforts.

At the forum, Huawei identified key innovations celebrated in the Top Ten Inventions award, covering various business areas including computing and storage. Alan Fan, Vice President of the Intellectual Property Rights Department at Huawei, detailed the company's contributions to technology via open-source platforms and academic publications.

In 2024, Huawei set a record with 37,000 published patents and contributed over 10,000 technical standards submissions. The open-source code for OpenHarmony grew by 10 million lines, reflecting extensive community involvement in technology development.

Heiwai Tang, Associate Vice-President of the University of Hong Kong, emphasized the importance of a reliable patent system to support economic growth. Further, Huawei launched the Chaspark Patent site, enhancing accessibility to patent information through features like semantic search and Artificial Intelligence (AI) summaries.

Huawei aims to promote a healthy business ecosystem through collaborative efforts in IP protection, as reiterated by Song, who emphasized the company's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation.
