Yocto Project announces partnership with RISC-V International as new Platinum Member.
The Yocto Project announced the addition of RISC-V International as a Platinum Member during the Open Source Summit North America. This partnership aims to enhance support for developers creating custom Linux-based systems for various hardware architectures.
The collaboration provides formalized backing for RISC-V profiles. It is expected to lead to an expanded suite of tools and documentation that will aid developers utilizing RISC-V across multiple domains.
Richard Purdie, Architect at the Yocto Project, noted, “Having the RISC-V architecture as a primary testing target for the Yocto Project's vast automated test matrix allows us to achieve a long-term goal of our releases and branches working seamlessly for users.”
Additionally, the Yocto Project welcomed Ericsson and Schneider Electric as new Gold Members, expanding its influence in telecommunications and industrial automation sectors. These additions reflect a trend of technology leaders adopting Yocto Project’s industry-standard tools.
The project also emphasized its focus on compliance with the European Union's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). Collaborating with Linux Foundation Research and others, the Yocto Project aims to assist members in understanding and implementing CRA compliance measures. A recently published research report outlines best practices, open source tools, and Software Bill of Materials (BOM) (SBOM) generation strategies.
Looking ahead, the Yocto Project will host its Developer Day 2025 on August 28 in Amsterdam, offering technical sessions and networking opportunities for both new and experienced developers in the community.
