Broadband access equipment revenue rises 7% as fiber and fixed wireless services attract subscribers, Dell’Oro reports.

The latest report from Dell’Oro Group indicates that global revenue for the Broadband Access equipment market rose to $4.7 billion in the second quarter of 2025, reflecting a 7% quarter-over-quarter increase and a 1% year-over-year increase. This trend highlights ongoing competition in the broadband sector as providers shift focus toward subscriber growth amidst macroeconomic uncertainty.

Market Dynamics

Jeff Heynen, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group, noted that fiber and fixed wireless providers are actively increasing their spending to attract broadband subscribers away from traditional cable operators. Consequently, expenditure on Data over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) infrastructure and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) has decreased to its lowest point since 1998.

Quarterly Insights

The Broadband Access and Home Networking quarterly report revealed several key findings. Spending on 5G Fixed Wireless CPE set a new record this quarter, as operators expand their subscriber base in the US, India, and other markets. In contrast, investments in DOCSIS infrastructure dropped by 13% year-over-year, driven by reduced demand for Remote PHY Devices and a slowdown in new vCMTS license purchases.

Conclusion

The report outlines an evolving landscape within the broadband access market, emphasizing the shift away from DOCSIS technology as fiber and fixed wireless solutions attract more investment. This summary encapsulates the findings from Dell’Oro Group's published analysis and provides insights for decision-makers in the telecommunications field.
