Industrial Technology Research Institute named to Clarivate top 100
The Industrial Technology Research Institute was named to Clarivate's 2026 Top 100 list, marking its tenth inclusion and its ninth consecutive year on that ranking; the designation identified ITRI as one of only three Research and Development (R&D) organizations recognized in 2026 and the most frequently honored research institute in the Asia-Pacific region.
Clarivate used patent-based metrics to evaluate candidates, and the listing reflected ITRI's recorded activity in patent filings and global patent protection as cited by the analyst firm; the recognition associated the institute with a set of organizations that the firm highlighted in its 2026 analysis.
To enhance the long-term value of its intellectual property, ITRI said it adopts a market-driven patent strategy aligned with industrial needs and future applications. The institute said it used technology-enabled patent management and patent mapping systems to integrate patent planning and deployment so that R&D outcomes aligned with industry demand.
ITRI was named to the list for the tenth time and for the ninth consecutive year; the organization operated offices in the U.S., Germany, the UK, Japan, and Thailand, traced its founding to 1973, and cited that it had incubated startups including UMC and TSMC.
“Recognition as a Top 100 Global Innovator is a remarkable achievement given the pace of change,” said Maroun S. Mourad, President, Intellectual Property, Clarivate. “ITRI's recurring presence on the Top 100 Global Innovators list reflects its excellence in intellectual property management and innovation,” said ITRI President Pei-Zen Chang.
“ITRI is committed to integrating interdisciplinary R&D capabilities across academia, industry, and research communities to build a value chain that closely links talent development with industrial needs. We are also actively bringing patented innovations to industry, with a focus on key areas such as drones and robotics. At the same time, ITRI is leveraging its patent portfolio and deepening international partnerships to help Taiwanese companies secure strategic positions in global markets.”
