FTAS Enhances Testing for SONiC with Version 2.2 Release

The Fabric Test Automation Suite (FTAS) has introduced version 2.2, which focuses on enhancing its testing capabilities for the Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) Network Optimization Suite (NOS). This update aims to improve the evaluation of SONiC’s operational readiness ahead of deployment.

Product Update

FTAS contains a comprehensive collection of test cases that assess SONiC functionalities in areas such as operational performance and scalability, as well as day-2 and chaos operations. Version 2.2 responds to customer feedback and implements new features aligned with recent SONiC releases.

The latest update includes new test cases to bolster existing coverage based on customer deployments. Enhancements focus on supporting NetOps tasks, including node and link draining, utilizing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for controlled route removal.

Technical Enhancements

Version 2.2 incorporates coverage for Day-2 NetOps operations, which include advanced features such as link and node drain operations through the use of route maps. Additional capabilities include testing for dual stack scalability and BGP Graceful Restart under various failure scenarios.

The release also adds the capability to validate device functionality across multiple ECMP path and route scenarios. A new feature covering Dynamic Port Breakout allows administrators to modify port configurations without a device reboot.

User Experience Improvements

Enhancements in FTAS 2.2 include better debugging utilities, allowing automatic tech support data collection during test failures. These tech support dumps and accompanying syslogs are stored in the test report folders, facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Furthermore, FTAS 2.2 captures Dynamic Optical Monitoring (DOM) information to assist with debugging port-related issues, providing detailed information when test failures occur. This data collection supports rapid identification of failure causes, contributing to smoother SONiC image releases.

Conclusion

The launch of FTAS 2.2 marks a continued commitment to improving the testing framework for SONiC deployment. This update is poised to enhance usability, product performance, and troubleshooting capabilities, responding directly to user feedback to refine the testing process.
