SK hynix completes customer validation of CXL 2.0-based DDR5

SK hynix Inc. has completed customer validation of its 96GB Compute Express Link (CXL) 2.0-based DDR5 memory product, designed to reduce costs and improve performance in server systems. The company reports a processing capability of 36GB/s with a 50% increase in capacity and a 30% enhancement in bandwidth compared to previous DDR5 modules, which could lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for data center operators.

Following the validation of the 96GB product, SK hynix is also working on customer validation for its 128GB product, which utilizes 32Gb DDR5 DRAM manufactured with fifth-generation 10-nanometer technology. This product offers improved performance per watt and is expected to expand the company’s CXL product portfolio.

To support the CXL ecosystem, SK hynix has developed a Heterogeneous Memory Software Development Kit (SDK) (HMSDK), integrating it with Linux, aimed at enhancing the performance of systems utilizing CXL technology. Uksong Kang, Head of Next Gen PP&E, noted, “We are developing various solution products to fulfill Optimal Innovation in order to overcome the limitation of high cost and scalability of the existing system.”
