Broadcom enhances VMware vDefend security for private clouds
New vDefend capabilities streamline and enhance private cloud lateral security implementation against advanced threats and ransomware.
Broadcom Inc. has introduced updates to VMware vDefend, aimed at improving security planning, simplifying lifecycle management, and enhancing scalability in application environments. As organizations formulate security plans for VMware Cloud Foundation, these new tools are designed to reduce time-to-implementation and maintain Security Operations (SecOps) across various applications.
“Organizations often navigate thousands of applications to power their business. This complexity makes it difficult to maintain visibility and lateral security across all applications,” stated Umesh Mahajan, vice president and general manager of the Application Networking and Security Division at Broadcom. “VMware vDefend simplifies how organizations achieve zero trust and private cloud security goals by cutting through complexity and providing a comprehensive lateral security implementation.”
VMware vDefend offers a new Security Segmentation Assessment and Report within its Security Intelligence tool. This feature enables security teams to quickly assess their security segmentation posture essential for implementing a zero trust private cloud strategy. It analyzes application traffic for timely insights regarding application interactions and potential security gaps that may arise from insecure protocols or inappropriate communication. Furthermore, it measures progress with a security segmentation score and provides actionable policy recommendations.
Updates to the Security Services Platform (SSP) of vDefend are also introduced, aimed at streamlining user experience and simplifying deployment for security intelligence and advanced threat prevention tools. Additional enhancements include microsegmentation as code, which automates security application to workloads, and improvements to the Network Detection and Response (NDR) capability designed for air-gapped environments.
According to third-party tests, VMware vDefend has received an Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) rating for Advanced Threat Prevention from Secure Element (SE) Labs. Moreover, a total economic impact study highlighted that organizations using VMware vDefend reduced their cyber breach risk by 40% and achieved a 116% return on investment.
Highlights from customer testimonials noted the importance of application-level visibility and micro-segmentation in achieving zero trust security goals within their respective organizations.
