CompTIA updates A+ certification to meet the new demands of tech support

CompTIA has announced an update to its A+ certification, incorporating new content that aligns with the evolving technology landscape.

As technology becomes increasingly integrated into business operations, tech support teams must possess a wide range of skills. “As organizations increase their reliance on technology in all aspects of their operations, tech support teams have to be savvy and knowledgeable in many areas,” said Katie Hoenicke, senior vice president, product development at CompTIA. “IT pros who achieve CompTIA A+ certification have demonstrated they are capable of working in this fast-changing environment.”

The A+ certification remains unique as the only entry-level, vendor-neutral certification designed for those in tech support roles, emphasizing practical skills and problem-solving. New exam focuses include:

  • Basic Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, covering appropriate use and data privacy differences.
  • Cybersecurity measures, protocols, and tools that address the increasing sophistication of cyber threats.
  • Cloud computing models and virtualization concepts important for modern IT infrastructures.
  • Software troubleshooting abilities for complex environments, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Networking solutions, including secure remote access and troubleshooting a variety of network devices.

Along with exam updates, CompTIA has introduced new learning products that include CertMaster Perform, CertMaster Learn, and CertMaster Practice, aimed at providing learners with the skills necessary for IT support roles through various interactive methods, including videos and hands-on labs.

Over 1.3 million A+ certifications have been awarded globally, making it recognized across multiple industries. It aligns with several roles in the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity and the Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework. Furthermore, CompTIA A+ is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and meets ISO 17024 standards.
