Comcast constructs fiber Internet network in Westlake, Florida

Comcast is constructing a new fiber Internet network in Westlake, Florida, designed to enhance connectivity for over 1,200 homes and businesses. The project aims to ensure reliable and ultra-fast Internet access, alongside other services like mobile and streaming, with completion expected through 2026.

As part of the construction effort, significant progress has already been made in neighborhoods such as The Pines and The Terraces, allowing more than 850 homes to connect to the next-generation network. Plans include further expansion into The Hammocks and The Terraces 3, as new developments arise in the area.

Jeff Buzzelli, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Florida Region, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Westlake’s growth by providing advanced connectivity options. He stated that the project is a step towards building “the Internet of tomorrow,” enhancing access to both residential and business customers.

The network will enable residential customers to achieve speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and businesses can access speeds up to 100 Gbps. This Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology offers symmetrical speeds, which facilitate faster uploads.

Additionally, Comcast's residential services, marketed under the Xfinity brand, will provide consumers with a complete range of offerings including high-speed Internet, video, mobile, voice services, and home security, aimed at optimizing online experiences.

Comcast Business is positioned to support local enterprises with a variety of solutions in connectivity, networking, and cybersecurity, catering to diverse organizational needs. The firm has established a reputation as a reliable provider of Ethernet services.

To further its mission of Internet accessibility, Comcast has been offering its Internet Essentials program since 2011, which provides low-cost Internet and digital skills training to income-constrained households. The initiative has benefitted numerous residents in Florida, contributing to community engagement through cash and in-kind donations exceeding $10 million in Palm Beach County since 2010.
