Cequence Security enhances Unified API Protection for agentic AI

Updates to its Application Programming Interface (API) security and bot management platform extend security to agent interactions, advancing beyond model-only protection approaches.

Cequence Security has announced enhancements to its Unified API Protection (UAP) platform to provide a security solution for agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) development and usage. This enhancement enables organizations to secure AI agent interactions, regardless of their development framework, while also preventing sensitive data exfiltration and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The expansion addresses the challenges posed by the rapid growth of agentic AI. As AI-driven exchanges potentially expose internal systems and create vulnerabilities, Cequence's UAP platform introduces a new security layer to govern interactions between AI agents and backend services. This layer allows detection and prevention of AI bots from accessing organizational data.

Internal telemetry indicates that a significant portion of AI-related bot traffic originates from Large Language Model (LLM) infrastructure, with much of it difficult to identify. The platform’s capabilities allow organizations to manage this traffic effectively and enhance security measures.

Key enhancements to Cequence’s UAP platform include:

  • Block unauthorized AI data harvesting: Organizations can control which AI entities can interact with their proprietary information.
  • Detect and prevent sensitive data exposure: The platform empowers organizations to distinguish between legitimate and anomalous data access, ensuring protection against data loss.
  • Discover and manage shadow AI: It identifies and classifies APIs from various AI tools, offering a unified view that assists in detecting and blocking data leaks.
  • Seamless integration: The platform integrates into existing DevOps frameworks, facilitating internal application discovery and security enforcement without relying on external tools.

“Gartner predicts that by 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, enabling a portion of day-to-day work decisions to be made autonomously,” said Ameya Talwalkar, CEO of Cequence. “Our platform helps organizations embrace innovation at scale without sacrificing governance, compliance, or control.”

The newly extended capabilities will be generally available in June.
