Brightspeed reports 65% completion of Alabama fiber network build

Brightspeed reported that its fiber network work in Alabama reached more than 65% completion, extending access to Brightspeed Fiber Internet across the state. The update provides counts of connected locations, planned additions, and communities where construction was reported as complete.

According to the company, more than 165,000 homes and businesses in Alabama had access to Brightspeed Fiber Internet, with another 86,000 additional locations planned statewide. Brightspeed also stated that its fiber network was 100% complete in a listed set of Alabama communities.

Brightspeed described statewide construction progress and referenced the role of state and federal funding. It said the Alabama expansion is supported by $14.3 million in Broadband Equity and Access Deployment (BEAD) funding to build an additional 4,400 locations and $597,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to add 822 locations.

Brightspeed said representatives were visiting communities in Alabama to share information about fiber availability, plans, and benefits. It listed towns where residents and businesses were able to check service access as well as communities where Brightspeed representatives planned to be in person.

“Reaching more than 65 percent completion in Alabama is a significant milestone that reflects Brightspeed's long‑term commitment to expanding reliable, high‑speed connectivity where it's needed most,” said Alabama's 93rd District State Representative Steve Clouse who also serves as chairman of the state's Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee. “Every new address connected strengthens our local economies, supports small businesses and gives families access to the tools they need to work, learn and thrive in today's digital world.” “This isn't just about building fiber; it's about opening doors,” said Tshacha Romeo, director of sales channel at Brightspeed.
