Aviz Networks Enhances SONiC Orchestration with ONES 1.3 Update

Aviz Networks has announced updates to ONES 1.3, enhancing SONiC network orchestration through several key features aimed at IT decision-makers. These improvements include enhanced operational capabilities and automation that support network reliability and efficiency.

Product Update

ONES 1.3 introduces EVPN Multihoming, which replaces traditional multi-chassis link aggregation (MC-LAG) setup with improved server redundancy, high availability, load balancing, and scalability. This update allows for greater operational resilience and enhanced overall network bandwidth during potential failures.

Additionally, the introduction of the replaceConfig Application Programming Interface (API) provides a mechanism for Day 2 operations that facilitates a comparison between current device configurations and a designated ‘golden’ configuration. This feature enables a rollback to a previous state if issues are detected during configuration changes, thereby helping to maintain stability during operational adjustments.

API Enhancements

ONES 1.3 also features new APIs for improved orchestration, including uploadDay1Config and upgradeNOSImage, which assist in automating the configuration of fabric topologies and managing software image upgrades within the SONiC network. This will streamline initial deployment processes as well as subsequent upgrades.

Through the expanded functionality of APIs, users can now securely back up and restore configurations, making it a safer process to experiment with system changes and enabling faster recovery during troubleshooting events.

Expanded Support Features

The addition of full API integration for EVPN Multihoming and enhanced Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) support offers versatile deployment options, catering to modern data center requirements. ONES 1.3 allows for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 VXLAN configurations, increasing flexibility and reliability across network operations.

Real-time orchestration progress tracking is now possible through the getDay1ConfigStatus and status APIs, enabling administrators to monitor configuration status as changes are applied, thus ensuring compliance with intended configurations.

Conclusion

The enhancements introduced in ONES 1.3 provide substantial improvements to SONiC orchestration, augmenting both automation and operational visibility. This summary encapsulates essential updates for enterprise IT leaders focused on optimizing their network systems.
