Vonage Launches Fraud Prevention Network APIs Across Major U.S. Carriers
Vonage announced the commercial launch of its fraud prevention Network APIs across major U.S. carriers, addressing the rising demand for secure digital interactions. The APIs, featuring Silent Authentication and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Swap detection, allow enterprises and developers to enhance user authentication and mitigate identity-related fraud. Customers onboarding the new technology include Freenow, a subsidiary of Lyft, and Persona.
Silent Authentication enables seamless validation of user phone numbers without the need for one-time passcodes, which can be vulnerable to attacks. According to internal data, Vonage reported that existing deployments of Silent Authentication resulted in three to five times faster authentication and up to eight percentage points higher conversion rates compared to traditional methods. This approach significantly enhances the customer experience by providing a more efficient and secure method of authentication.
SIM Swap detection alerts customers to unauthorized changes to SIM cards, addressing a growing issue with such incidents surging substantially. The introduction of this capability has reportedly improved fraud detection by 30 to 40 percent. By integrating these APIs, enterprises can leverage real-time network intelligence to build applications that facilitate secure digital experiences.
Christophe Van de Weyer, President and Head of Business Unit Application Programming Interface (API) at Vonage, highlighted the importance of real-time network intelligence in combating fraud. Other industry leaders, such as Sasha Dobrolioubov from Persona, express enthusiasm for the advanced mobile network capabilities, believing it will enhance their ability to detect and prevent fraudulent activities. With both Silent Authentication and SIM Swap APIs also available in several European countries, Vonage aims to reshape the security landscape across the telecommunications sector.
