Apache Software Foundation announces Apache Grails 7.0.0

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) announced the release of Apache Grails 7.0.0, marking a key milestone since its elevation to a Top-Level Project. This version incorporates extensive dependency upgrades, including Java 17+, Groovy 4, Spring Boot 3.5, and Jakarta EE 10, enhancing the web application framework’s functionality.

Grails is an Apache Groovy-based framework designed for the Java Virtual Machine (VM) (JVM). The latest release introduces features aimed at improving Developer Experience (DevEx), such as containerized browser testing with Testcontainers, enhanced testing capabilities, and improved build processes. Additionally, it includes a Software Bill of Materials (BOM) (Software BOM (SBOM)) generation for better compliance and transparency.

James Fredley, Apache Grails Predictive Maintenance Controller (PMC) Chair, mentioned that this version reflects 18 months of collaborative efforts and focuses on enhancing workflows while adhering to Grails' principles of efficiency in code management. Key improvements also include a consolidated repository for core projects, resulting in a streamlined approach to development and contributions.
