Telstra and Nokia collaborate to provide secure access to network APIs

Telstra and Nokia announced a partnership to provide developers secure access to network APIs, facilitating the creation of applications catering to diverse enterprise use cases. This collaboration, linked to Telstra's muru-D Labs, integrates Nokia's Network as Code platform.

The partnership aims to enhance network functionality for enterprises, with applications in managing network traffic during large events and improving network observability. Developers will gain access to live and simulated APIs, enabling them to build, test, and deploy applications that utilize Telstra's advanced network capabilities.

Kim Krogh Andersen, Group Executive Product & Technology at Telstra, noted that this initiative aligns with the Connected Future 30 strategy. The approach focuses on encapsulating advanced connectivity capabilities, reinforcing Telstra's commitment to evolving customer requirements with flexible solutions.

Andersen emphasized the importance of network APIs in creating responsive applications for enterprises, highlighting the goal of enabling developers to securely access Telstra’s network. The initiative will culminate in a local hackathon later this year, providing developers both sandbox and live Application Programming Interface (API) access for experimentation.

Nokia's strategy includes connecting multiple API ecosystems through its platform, aimed at operational efficiency for integrating network capabilities. Shkumbin Hamiti, Vice-President at Nokia, expressed the partnership’s potential to give developers broader options and to shape future services through their feedback.

This collaboration builds on the longstanding relationship between Telstra and Nokia, reflecting a mutual interest in deepening their integration within developer ecosystems. The effort seeks to support Telstra's vision of a software-defined, programmable network.
