Nokia Mobile Broadband Index projects 5G growth in MEA by 2030
Nokia published its Mobile Broadband Index Report 2025, analyzing the mobile broadband landscape in the Middle East and Africa. The report anticipates that by 2030, 5G subscriptions in the region will reach 605 million, accounting for 25% of all mobile connections and driving 53% of total mobile data traffic.
The findings indicate that 82% of connections will utilize 4G or 5G networks as smartphones become increasingly accessible. The report emphasizes how 5G acts as a facilitator for Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives, the development of smart cities, and enterprise solutions. Operator investments and government programs are accelerating 5G adoption, especially within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), where 91% of subscriptions are projected to be on 5G.
Fixed Wireless Access (Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA)) is also experiencing notable growth, with market share expected to increase from 15% in 2023 to 35% by 2030, due to the development of robust 5G infrastructure. This growth reflects an industry shift towards providing high-speed broadband without traditional connections, presenting a cost-effective option for expanding internet services.
Mikko Lavanti, Senior Vice President, Mobile Networks, Model Extraction Attack (MEA), Nokia, stated, “Investments in 5G technology are being made by operators in the MEA region, serving as an engine to enable IoT, smart cities, and enterprise solutions.” These advancements cover various applications, including autonomous transportation and healthcare, enhanced through real-time data analytics.
