Nokia delivers tactical private wireless solutions to MCTSSA
Nokia has delivered its Banshee tactical private wireless solutions to the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), enhancing battlefield communications for tactical operations. This development reflects ongoing collaboration between both entities to advance communication capabilities tailored to operational needs.
This year, Nokia and the Marine Corps validated the Banshee system's effectiveness during a proof-of-concept at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, where it demonstrated secure, high-capacity tactical communications. Additionally, the system was showcased in environments characterized by denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) conditions, emphasizing its role in facilitating robust connectivity across joint warfighting networks.
Following the positive results of these evaluations, MCTSSA acquired multiple Banshee units in early 2025 for further integration into Marine Corps exercises. Nokia has provided comprehensive training to ensure effective deployment, covering network operations, setup, troubleshooting, and practical demonstrations of the system.
Scott Ferguson, Chief Revenue Officer of Nokia Federal Solutions, noted the advantages of the Banshee system, stating, “Banshee is a game-changer for the warfighter, providing the Marine Corps with a powerful, scalable private wireless solution that meets the demand of modern warfare.” Meanwhile, Capt. Eric Perez from MCTSSA highlighted the importance of real-time data flow between sensors and weapon systems for maintaining operational advantages.
The Banshee family is designed for high-speed, long-range, and secure tactical communication, with a focus on cost efficiency as a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) system. Its lightweight design and advanced security features position it as a practical solution for modern military communications.
