Nokia collaborates with Surge on subsea network to improve broadband access in Indonesia
Nokia partnered with PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (Surge) to deploy a new subsea optical network connecting Jakarta and Singapore. This initiative aims to enhance data center interconnectivity and extend affordable broadband access to over 40 million people across Indonesia.
The subsea network is a part of Surge's infrastructure expansion to provide fiber-based broadband services. It is designed to enable reliable connectivity for communities lacking adequate internet access.
Utilizing Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch, the network will initially offer a capacity of 20.8 terabits and support ultra-high-speed services of up to 800GE targeted at enterprise customers. This deployment aligns with Surge's operational goals and commitment to digital inclusivity in Indonesia.
Shannedy Ong, Director at Surge, emphasized the strategic importance of this deployment in advancing digital equity. James Watt, Senior Vice President at Nokia, highlighted the network's role in fostering growth opportunities throughout the region.
