Brightspeed completes fiber deployment in 11 Kansas communities
Brightspeed reported the completion of its fiber network deployment in 11 communities across Kansas, impacting nearly 23,000 families and businesses. This initiative responds to the need for improved connectivity in a state where only 59.9% of the population previously had access to fiber-optic service.
The deployment covers Baldwin, Ellinwood, Fredonia, Garnett, Hillsboro, Hoisington, Holton, Horton, Junction City, Osage City, and Osawatomie. With this completion, residents can leverage high-speed internet for various activities such as remote work, online learning, and e-commerce.
Brightspeed emphasized its commitment to closing the digital divide, enhancing the existing outdated copper infrastructure with more reliable fiber solutions. Carsi Mitzner, director of government affairs at Brightspeed, stated, “Bringing our advanced fiber network to these areas is a major step forward... so customers, especially those in underserved locations, can have voice and internet service they can count on.”
Currently, approximately 24,000 locations in Kansas are already enabled for fiber service. Upon completion of its expansion plans, Brightspeed aims to extend service to over 57,000 families and small businesses. The company is actively engaging with local communities to inform them about available services and how they can benefit from enhanced internet access.
