Akamai partners with Linux Kernel Organization for infrastructure support
Akamai has partnered with the Linux Kernel Organization to provide infrastructure services for kernel.org, thereby supporting global developers involved in the Linux Operating System (OS). This multi-year agreement focuses on enhancing the security and performance of Linux, the open source software used worldwide.
The collaboration introduces Akamai's cloud computing services and Content Delivery Network (CDN) to kernel.org, essential for maintaining Linux kernel development. The Linux kernel is significant, comprising approximately 28 million lines of code, and is crucial for numerous applications across various sectors, including government, research, and enterprise.
“Like the rest of the world, Akamai depends on Linux. By supporting kernel.org, we're giving back to the community,” said Alex Chircop, Chief Architect of Akamai Cloud. Chris Aniszczyk, Chief Technology Officer of CNCF, added, “The support they are providing the Linux kernel further showcases Akamai's commitment to open source projects.”
In addition to supporting the Linux kernel, Akamai announced it will provide infrastructure for Alpine Linux, a popular distribution within the Linux community.
