Yocto Project adds RISC-V International as Platinum Member.
The Yocto Project has included RISC-V International as a Platinum Member during the Open Source Summit North America. This collaboration aims to improve assistance for developers crafting custom Linux-based systems across different hardware architectures.
The partnership formalizes support for RISC-V profiles, promising an increased range of tools and documentation for developers working with RISC-V in various sectors.
Richard Purdie, an architect at the Yocto Project, stated, “Having the RISC-V architecture as a primary testing target for the Yocto Project's vast automated test matrix allows us to achieve a long-term goal of our releases and branches working seamlessly for users.”
Additionally, the Yocto Project welcomed Ericsson and Schneider Electric as new Gold Members, enhancing its presence in the telecommunications and industrial automation sectors. These new members reflect a trend among technology companies adopting the Yocto Project's tools.
The project also highlighted its commitment to comply with the European Union's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). In collaboration with Linux Foundation Research, the Yocto Project intends to help its members navigate and implement CRA compliance. A recent research report details best practices, open source tools, and Software Bill of Materials (BOM) (SBOM) generation strategies.
Looking forward, the Yocto Project will organize its Developer Day 2025 on August 28 in Amsterdam, featuring technical sessions and networking opportunities for developers, both new and experienced.
