Women in CyberSecurity announces application period for sixth annual scholarship program
Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) has opened applications for its sixth yearly Security Training Scholarship Program, which is designed to promote the recruitment and retention of women in the cybersecurity workforce. This initiative responds to a significant global demand for cybersecurity professionals, estimated at 4.8 million, according to ISC2 Workforce Study.
The scholarship, supported by organizations such as Bloomberg and Craig Newmark Philanthropies, aims to equip participants with relevant skills and career placement support. Applications are available until August 30, 2025, for WiCyS members aged 18 and older who intend to enter the cybersecurity field within 18 months, with a special emphasis on first-time applicants.
A new track for veterans and military spouses has been added to the program to enhance mentorship and networking for individuals with military backgrounds. This addition seeks to utilize the valuable skills and perspectives these individuals offer within cybersecurity.
The scholarship initiative focuses on creating pathways for candidates from diverse backgrounds, prioritizing commitment and aptitude rather than prior technical expertise. Historical data indicates a 92% placement rate for past scholarship recipients, who have moved into positions such as Security Operations (SecOps) Center Analyst and Cloud Security Engineer.
Scholar alumna Stephani Guimaraes Lima stated, “The WiCyS Security Training Scholarship is not only about learning cybersecurity skills in every program tier. It's also about building my confidence and realizing I can achieve anything I set my mind to.” Craig Newmark commented on the importance of this program, stating, “Cybersecurity is a field where everyone who can contribute should be involved,” highlighting its role in broadening opportunities for women in this area.
