Wireless Infrastructure Association responds to House subcommittee passage of broadband permitting bills

The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) commented on recent federal legislative activity concerning broadband permitting. The organization highlighted the legislative progress made by the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.

The legislation addresses the need for standardized wireless permitting processes to support broadband expansion. According to WIA, such a framework aims to provide clarity, proportionality, and transparency to facilitate network development and potentially reduce broadband costs. This effort follows previous bipartisan initiatives to improve regulatory certainty in telecommunications infrastructure deployment.

The proposed policy outlines a national approach governing wireless permitting, seeking to prevent inconsistencies in local regulatory practices. WIA emphasized that clearer rules would aid industry stakeholders in planning and constructing infrastructure projects necessary for next-generation connectivity solutions.

The Subcommittee's actions represent legislative steps toward codifying established regulations and enhancing procedural guidelines. WIA noted that the passage by this Subcommittee is part of ongoing efforts to secure congressional approval from the full House.

Patrick Halley, President and CEO of WIA, said, “The U.S. needs a national wireless permitting framework that is predictable, proportionate, and transparent to expand broadband access for communities, keep America competitive, and increase choice to bring down broadband costs for American consumers. The legislation passed by the Subcommittee today would codify prior bipartisan actions and strengthen the rules of the road to create the certainty industry needs today to build the networks of tomorrow. We appreciate Chairman Hudson and the Subcommittee Members taking action and urge Chairman Guthrie and the House to pass these critical bills to enable connectivity everywhere.”

Looking ahead, the organization indicated that it supports prompt consideration of the bills by the House to advance regulatory measures affecting broadband infrastructure deployment across the country.
