Rigetti Computing achieves 99.5% fidelity with 36-qubit quantum system.

Rigetti Computing, Inc. reported an achievement related to its 36-qubit quantum system, securing a 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity. This development shows a twofold enhancement in median gate error rates compared to its earlier 84-qubit Ankaa™-3 chip. The current system consists of four 9-qubit chips that are combined, moving closer to a scalable chiplet design with more than 100 qubits.

Product Launch

The new 36-qubit system will be launched on August 15. Rigetti also plans to introduce a version exceeding 100 qubits before the conclusion of 2025, while maintaining the same two-qubit gate fidelity. Subodh Kulkarni, the CEO, highlighted the benefits offered by superconducting qubits, noting they operate over 1,000 times faster than various alternative techniques.

Company Overview

Since 2017, Rigetti has been providing quantum computing capabilities via the cloud and offers on-premises (on-prem) options. The modular design allows for diverse application across sectors, catering to both enterprise and government clients through Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services. Additionally, the company produces its quantum chips in-house to aid in the advancement of scalable quantum computing solutions.
