F5.5G Summit Addresses AI and Broadband Expansion
At MWC Shanghai 2025, the F5.5G All-Optical Industry Summit convened key stakeholders to discuss advancements in the F5.5G sector. The event welcomed representatives from various organizations, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Telecom, China Mobile, and Maxis from Malaysia, who participated in discussions about 10 Gbps all-optical broadband and optical transmission practices.
Commercial deployment of F5.5G all-optical networks has expanded, with over 70 carriers offering 10 Gbps packages. The deployment of more than 240 networks functioning at 400G is notable, and efforts are underway to establish metro networks with 1 ms latency to enhance access to cloud computing.
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly important in the digital economy, telecommunications carriers are transitioning to providers of connectivity, computing, and application services. Li Peng, Senior Vice President of Huawei, remarked on the importance of homes and enterprises in this transition. He highlighted the need for collaboration to further develop F5.5G all-optical networks for improved AI applications.
Bob Chen, President of Huawei's Optical Business Product Line, addressed advancements in F5.5G networks that aim to improve home broadband. Chen stated the focus remains on enhancing user experience while introducing new services. Huawei's initiatives include bandwidth upgrades, tailored user experiences, and intelligent devices designed to accommodate diverse AI applications for households.
