Dell’Oro report indicates Ethernet sales growth in AI back-end networks

Recent analysis from Dell’Oro Group highlights a rise in Ethernet sales within the Artificial Intelligence (AI) back-end networks, indicating its sustained presence in the market amid competition from InfiniBand technologies.

Market Overview

During the second quarter of 2025, Ethernet sales were primarily driven by Celestica, NVIDIA, and Arista Networks, collectively accounting for approximately two-thirds of total Ethernet sales. This marks a considerable increase, as Ethernet comprised less than 20 percent of the market two years prior.

Sameh Boujelbene, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group, commented, “The rapid ramp of NVIDIA’s Blackwell Ultra platform fueled strong demand for 800 Gbps InfiniBand switches, propelling a surge in InfiniBand switch sales in 2Q 2025.” He further noted that Ethernet's continued lead is supported by its integration in extensive AI clusters established by hyperscalers and emerging Neo Cloud Service Providers.

Quarterly Insights

The report provides substantial data regarding Ethernet switch shipments and revenues, with key insights indicating that 800 Gbps switches constituted the majority of those shipments during this period.
