NVIDIA and Oracle Collaborate to Establish DOE’s Largest AI Supercomputer
NVIDIA collaborated with Oracle and the U.S. Department of Energy to establish the largest Artificial Intelligence (AI) supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory, featuring 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. This initiative aims to enhance scientific discovery and productivity in various research fields.
The Solstice supercomputer will support the DOE's mission to develop AI capabilities to drive technological progress in U.S. security, science, and energy applications. Another system, Equinox, will include 10,000 Blackwell GPUs, with availability expected in the first half of 2026. The interconnected systems will deliver a combined 2,200 exaflops of AI performance.
Jensen Huang, NVIDIA's CEO, emphasized the collaboration, stating, “AI is the most powerful technology of our time, and science is its greatest frontier.” Homomorphic Encryption (HE) noted that the supercomputing infrastructure will facilitate advancements in diverse fields, from healthcare to materials science.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright highlighted the partnership's potential, indicating that the systems represent an approach to computing collaborations that enhances scientific and technological capacity. Argonne National Laboratory's director Paul K. Kearns stated that the systems are designed to accelerate scientific AI workflows, connecting to essential DOE experimental facilities.
Clay Magouyrk, CEO of Oracle, remarked on the importance of delivering high-performance AI capabilities for addressing complex national challenges through this partnership. The shared resources are positioned to play a significant role in maintaining U.S. leadership in AI and scientific discovery for the future.
