Mavenir expands cloud-native core solutions to Alaska

Bristol Bay Cellular and the Rural Independent Network Alliance (RINA) have partnered with Mavenir to extend its cloud-native Packet and Voice Core solutions to Alaska. This initiative aims to provide enhanced 4G services and a pathway to 5G for remote communities in the region.

Deployment Overview

A new cloud-native core platform is designated for Anchorage, which will facilitate localized mobile traffic, specifically benefiting RINA members, including Bristol Bay Cellular. This deployment will also function as a redundant core for RINA's existing networks, bolstering their infrastructure from Utah.

Technology and Infrastructure

Mavenir's setup is based on its cloud-native framework, which accommodates 4G services and prepares for 5G capabilities. The technology includes advanced solutions like Integrated Maritime Surveillance (IMS) and Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE), highlighting a collaborative effort to advance rural mobile connectivity.

Statements from Leadership

Ashok Khuntia, Mavenir's President, discussed the importance of this relationship in enhancing the network infrastructure over time. Allen Bennion, RINA's Director of Operations, described the scalable core's flexibility for various providers, while Earl Hubb, CEO of Bristol Bay Cellular, affirmed the project's role in improving Alaska's connectivity.

The overall initiative will replace outdated systems and improve mobile voice and data service delivery across the region, marking a step forward for rural telecommunications.
