Dell’Oro Group Reports Broadband Access Equipment Revenue Peaks in 2028
Dell’Oro Group forecasts Broadband Access Equipment revenue will grow at a 0.5% average annual rate from 2026 to 2030, with a peak in 2028, as DOCSIS 4.0 and fiber expansion continue and equipment prices rise.
Market Outlook
The firm projects the Broadband Access Equipment market will expand from 2026 through 2030, with total revenue peaking in 2028. Dell’Oro Group said the forecast increased slightly from January 2026 due to expected higher equipment prices for at least the next year.
Cost and Deployment Constraints
Dell’Oro Group warned that rising bill-of-materials costs for residential CPE could affect homes passed and connected. “Large-scale DOCSIS 4.0 and XGS-PON upgrade and expansion projects are well underway, though the increasing bill-of-materials costs for residential CPE threaten to further growing gaps in homes passed and connected,” said Jeff Heynen, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group.
Heynen also said ISPs are reviewing available options to secure subscribers and provide service. “From limiting their purchases of high-end Wi-Fi 7 gateways to expanding their refurbishing programs, ISPs are sorting through all available options to secure subscribers and provide the best service,” said Heynen.
Segment Forecasts
Dell’Oro Group expects PON equipment revenue to grow at a 1.6% average annual rate from 2026 to 2030, supported by XGS-PON deployments in North America, EMEA, and CALA and FTTR deployments in China. The firm forecast this category on that basis for the 2026-2030 period.
For cable distributed access equipment, Dell’Oro Group projects revenue will peak in 2028 and 2029 as operators continue DOCSIS 4.0 and early fiber deployments. The firm also expects revenue for Wi-Fi 7 residential routers and broadband CPE with WLAN to grow steadily through 2030 despite lower unit shipments due to higher expected ASPs.
