Comcast constructs fiber Internet network in Westlake, Florida
Comcast is developing a new fiber Internet network in Westlake, Florida, intended to provide connectivity to more than 1,200 homes and businesses. This initiative aims to deliver reliable and high-speed Internet access, with project completion anticipated by 2026.
Construction progress has been notable in neighborhoods such as The Pines and The Terraces, where over 850 homes are now connected to the upgraded network. Future expansion is planned for areas like The Hammocks and The Terraces 3 as local developments continue.
Jeff Buzzelli, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Florida Region, highlighted the company's commitment to fostering Westlake's growth by enhancing connectivity options. He remarked that this initiative is a move towards developing “the Internet of tomorrow,” which will improve access for both residential and business customers.
The new network will provide residential users with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps), while businesses will have access to speeds of up to 100 Gbps. The deployment of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology ensures symmetrical speeds, improving upload performance.
Comcast's residential offerings, under the Xfinity brand, will include various services such as high-speed Internet, video, mobile, voice services, and home cybersecurity, all designed to enhance online experiences.
For businesses, Comcast has a range of connectivity, networking, and cybersecurity solutions tailored to meet diverse needs. The company is recognized as a dependable provider of Ethernet services.
Since 2011, Comcast has also been running the Internet Essentials program, which provides affordable Internet access and digital skills training for low-income households. This program has aided many Florida residents, with community contributions exceeding $10 million in cash and in-kind donations in Palm Beach County since 2010.
