Cognizant expands Synapse target to two million by 2030

Cognizant expanded its Synapse skilling initiative and set a new goal to upskill two million individuals by the end of 2030 after it surpassed its original target of one million ahead of the companys stated 2026 deadline; the announcement linked the effort to workforce change associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The company cited a Cognizant–Oxford Economics study that said 90 percent of jobs would experience disruption from AI in the next decade and said the scale of that change made broad upskilling necessary; the release described Synapse as a company-wide effort to advance learning, establish technology partnerships and invest in community giving.

Synapse included a Skills Accelerator, Technology Partnerships, Apprenticeships, Community Education and Employee Skilling and aimed to reduce socio-economic, cultural and language barriers while supporting jobseeker skilling and employee-led STEM education; the initiative also named partnerships with governments, academic institutions, non-profit and industry leaders.

Launched in 2023, Cognizant said it intended to broaden specific Synapse focus areas by expanding learning and development resources to accelerate employee learning and offer learning tracks for client teams, by providing branded learning programs and events for client sites, learning institutions and NGO partners, and by increasing philanthropic funding and hosting learning and development programs in communities where it operates.

“The expansion of our Synapse commitment marks a significant step toward building a more future-ready workforce. We are proud to have surpassed our initial goal ahead of schedule, a testament to the dedication of our teams and partners,” said Ravi Kumar S., Chief Executive Officer at Cognizant. “Our bold commitment to reach two million individuals by 2030 reflects the essential role Cognizant plays in enabling people around the globe to thrive in the AI-powered age and participate in the prosperity that this digital transformation brings.”

The press release included forward-looking statements about the effects of AI on the workforce and the expected results of Synapse and said those statements were subject to risks, uncertainties and assumptions that could cause actual results to differ materially.
